Keyword Mapping and Site Structure
In this video I cover keyword mapping and setup the site silo structure for pages and posts. Getting this all down on e-paper before taking the next step is a crucial part of the process.
- I like to use Google Draw because it’s free and everything in the google toolbox saves automatically. If you have a preferred mind map software feel free to use that.
- To make things easier for users when your site is built you want each topic page topic to be clear and concise. If you have two very similar services it can sometimes be better to make combined page. The main focus here is to make the experience on your website as straight forward for the end user as possible.
- For your pages, try and keep the same keywords in each silo. If you mix up keywords between different services and start to market your site with SEO, Google’s algorithms may get a little confused as to which page to rank initially, which we don’t want.
There is an exception to the rule. Hyperlinks can contain a keyword you are targeting on another page as the anchor text. But only when linking to the page that does contain that keyword.
- With posts we want to target long tail versions of the keyword’s in that silo. The post will then be linked to the page in the same silo which will help increase the topical relevancy of that page. You can also write posts that are location based to bring geo relevancy to your site.
If you get stuck or unsure about something, first check the comment section at the bottom of the page. If you can’t find anything that helps, ask your question and I will answer it as best I can.
